Saturday dawned clear and gorgeous so we decided to take a spur-of-the-moment day trip up the coast to Santa Barbara. It was such a good call! We spent a perfect day and drove home relaxed, happy and just slightly sun kissed.
First stop was lunch at a magical spot (really a must for those of us with kids in tow) in the tiny community of Summerland, just south of Santa Barbara. It's called The Beach Grill at Padaro and it's right on the ocean with picnic tables scattered all over a grassy lawn that encircles a giant sand box strewn with kiddo toys. Seriously the perfect first stop to get out, stretch your legs, and free the kids from their carseats after the drive up.

After lunch we continued on up to Montecito and Butterfly Beach. Did you know I went to college in Santa Barbara and used to live 2 blocks from Butterfly? We had a perfect breeze for Benicio to fly a kite for the very first time. The look on his little face was truly the sweetest thing to see!!
A sand art installation in progress ... have you guys SEEN the creations by the amazing sand artist Andres Amador!? You've gotta check it out ... it's unreal.
We spent time collecting lots of special beach stones ...
And throwing them into the ocean ...
And ended with dinner and a stroll down picturesque State Street ...
It was all pretty much perfect, and I felt really grateful just to be where I am in my life right now.
